Artist's Statement: Ingrid Rambocas
This collection
of paintings spans over the past 3-4 years. One can observe the
evolution of my style-from representational to semi-abstract to
my recent discovery of abstraction using geometric shapes.
I have always
had a fascination with abstraction and it has always deluded me.
I did various workshops with many experienced artists, including
Kenwyn Crichlow, Sundiata and the late Lisa Chu Foon in the
pursuit of abstract painting.
About two years
ago, my sister was taking wire-bending workshop at Studio 66 in
Barataria. That was where I met Turunesh. We hit it off
immediately and she directed me along the path of abstraction in
the most natural and easy manner. Her counterpart, Makemba, also
guided me. That is when I discovered my semi-abstract style of
breaking up the picture plane into shapes.
Finally, with
the assistance of my art therapist, we were able to go deep
within and bring out that pent-up creativity.
Now expressing myself in the non-representational manner gives
me a sense of liberation. I do not have to paint what I see, but
what I feel, and I love this sense of freedom.
