Jeremy Powell
was born in Port Arthur, East Texas in the 1970’s; he also lived
with his family in Puerto Rico and spent time some time in
Barbados before finally settling in Miami, Florida.
His creative
skills and vision began in his early childhood days in Texas.
It would be further developed and nurtured with the exposure to
the tropical climate and culture of the Caribbean and South
Florida. The time spent in Puerto Rico and Barbados would
provide much of the inspiration for his future career, being
exposed to both North American, Hispanic and West Indian culture
at an early age. However it turned out that music would be the
catalyst for much of his future work as both an
artist/illustrator and a DJ.
Jeremy’s work is
full of color and posses qualities similar to the works of Paul
Gauguin, Max Pechstein as well as the contemporary works of Brad
Holland. He is a great admirer of the Impressionists and the
German Expressionists; all seeming to possess the qualities that
are encompassed in his work; color, vibrant composition and
certain hard edge sensitivity.
The artist often
refers to his style as expressive vignettes of the moment; he
often says that “the vision through my eyes is line, form and
color”.
Jeremy now lives and works in Miami, Florida and continues to
work as both artist / illustrator and DJ, both of which he says
compliment and feed off each other.
