Known for his detailed portraits of birds in their natural
environment, Neil Massy is a self taught artist who has been
painting professionally for the past twenty six years.
A graduate of Hillview College in 1975, his
paintings were first exhibited in a family exhibition at the
Bank of Nova Scotia in 1977. He has been a full-time artist ever
since.
He has always had a special love for nature, and
began painting nature scenes after attending a two-week seminar
at the Asa Wright Nature Centre in 1980.
Over the years he has held fourteen one-man
exhibitions at leading Art Galleries in Trinidad, and in 1998,
published a book of his paintings and writings titled “ Natures
Light”.
“Peaceful Places”
It may be in your
garden or by the seaside, on a mountaintop or in a forest. But
a peaceful place is somewhere to rest your weary mind.
The paintings in
this series as with most of my art are meant to put the viewer
in touch with that inner peace, the most peaceful of all places
within, to put one in touch with the divine.
It does not have to
be a picture of Jesus or Buddha or Krishna. It may be a picture
(painting) of a tree, a flower, a little bird, or a beautiful
sunset, to remind us of the divine within and around us.
How fortunate are
we to be able to experience the grandeur of God’s love in the
smallest of things. And in the shortest of moments, to
constantly be able to touch that peace within.
I as an artist feel extremely fortunate to be able to share my
peace with you.
