Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and currently residing in New York City,
Glen Martin is a multi-talented artist who works in a variety of
mediums. Glen's early educational background consisted of
studies in Commercial Art (drawing, lettering, mechanical,
paste-up) in Trinidad.
Recognizing his
artistic talent early on, recommendations by professors and
peers eventually won Glen a full-scholarship, with stipend, to
the prestigious Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Glen went on
to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Illustration &
Painting.
While figurative
painting is his hallmark, Glen's artistic repertoire is by no
means limited to this medium. Others include gildings,
landscapes in oils and acrylics, ceramics, printmaking and
etchings and linocut, to name a few.
Glen's work has
been commended by his peers in solo and group shows, both in
America and abroad. The Royal Bank of Trinidad & Tobago
sponsored his very first show in 1974. Over the years, the
artist has exhibited at the Sybil Atteck Art Gallery, Art
Creators, The Yellow Poui Art Gallery, Carlot Studios and the
Scotia Center to name a few, all in Trinidad. In New York City,
his works have been on display at the Puck Galleries, The Jacob
Javits Center, Artilier Studios, the Pratt Gallery and Medger
Evers College.
Imparting a love to future generations is a must for this
artist. As Arts and Craft Teacher (1995-1990) for the Ministry
of Education and Culture in Trinidad, Glen found the perfect
outlet to share his many artistic gifts.
