One of Kristy Galt-Franco’s favourite
quotes comes from the great Paul Cezanne. “A work of art which
did not begin in emotion is not art.”
“As a child, I drew and painted because I
loved to create. I drew from life. Now, as an adult, I research
for the bones of my painting using life, and without realising,
I usually create something different from the original idea. It
is always the emotion of the day that determines the painting. I
do not want someone to ever look at one of my creations and not
feel something. Then I will say I have not done my duty. Then it
is not worth it to be seen.”
Born on the 8th of July, 1979,
Kristy Galt-Franco was the first child to proud parents, who
thankfully embraced every aspect of art. Descended from a
Grandfather who is a most talented specimen excelling in all of
the arts, and Aunts and Uncles gifted in the same, Kristy had
very little choice of passion. It was engrained. Her parents
constantly encouraged, and she saw the world in a different way
to others around her. Art gave her imagination a window.
A past student of St. Joseph’s Convent, she
embarked on a one year Fundamentals of Art program to be
introduced to the various disciplines. She soon realised her
passion for illustration and there she continued for 3 more
years in an interpretive illustration program at the same
Sheridan College of Art, Animation and Design, Canada.
Kristy worked for three years after
graduating as a Graphic Designer for a well known graphics
company, while illustrating for magazines and an agency, and
painting in her free time. She left there to fulfil her lifelong
dream of being both a Mother and artist. She works from home at
this point, doing private commissions, mostly portraits. Kristy
lives in Trinidad with her husband and two lively children. For
now her work consists of portraits and flowers. As for the
future, she plans to delve more into fantasy art encompassing
the two with a bit of local flare.
Her latest accomplishment includes a spot on
the Queen’s Park Oval wall as one of the winners of the Peace,
Love and Harmony Competition, bringing local art to the public.
