Naila Felice
A
resident of San Juan all my life, I started writing and
animating storybooks at the tender age of 9. In 1997, I began my
secondary school education at Bishop Anstey High School.
Throughout my secondary school life, I excelled in art
eventually being awarded for excellence in CXC for art and later
being saluted for excellence in art for GCE, and was awarded the
Leroy Clarke Trophy in 2004. Also in 2004, I entered a
nationally recognized exhibition and competition, spearheaded by
The Women in Art Organization of Trinidad and Tobago, in
collaboration with the Ministry of Community Development and
Culture. In the competition I placed third in the experimental
category, and in the graphic category, first, second and third.
In
2005, I worked for six months as an intern and personal
assistant to an Interior decorator and designer, Ina K. Blake.
While working with her, she commissioned me to complete several
projects for notable organizations and clients. Through Ms.
Blake, I was introduced to Horizons Art Gallery as a medium for
displaying my talent. After my internship had ended, during July
2005, I was contacted by Horizons to participate in a group
exhibition. Following this experience I have continued to
exhibit my works at Horizons Gallery with the intention of
eventually having my work displayed at all of the local
galleries and other regional and international fora. My work
continues to be collected by friends, family, and reputable
organizations.
