Sandra Dopson
has been painting professionally for the past twenty years. In
high school she received a Distinction in Art in the O’Level
examinations, and has never looked back.
Apart from her high school studies on the
subject, Dopson is a self-taught artist.
“I guess I was born to be an artist.”
She is best known for her nostalgic scenes of old houses,
including the popular Magnificent Seven buildings around the
Queen’s Park Savannah, coconut trees, bamboo and country roads.
Dopson’s style changes with her mood from
variations of pointillism to impressionism.
Her medium is
acrylic; although she sometimes enjoys working with oil.
She is particularly interested in the use of dramatic light
effects and shadows in her work, which aid in the creation of
depth and contrast.
She has a deep love for art, which is a form of expression for
her and also a release and therapy.
Dopson’s paintings can be seen in homes and
offices, both in Trinidad and
abroad. She has
participated in many solo and group exhibitions and had her
first exhibition 10 years ago at Horizons.
