Born in 1967,
Robert Armstrong
started painting at the early age of 15, when his natural
ability was evident. Robert paints mainly with a palette knife
and enjoys painting from memory, putting history to canvas. He
spends days, weeks and sometimes months perfecting his
creations. He attended the Edna Manley School of Visual and
Performing Arts from 1987 to 1990. He received several awards
from Jamaica’s Cultural Development
Commission’s Festival of Arts Competition in the category of
Visual Arts, winning both bronze and silver medals in 1988.
Robert also received a Certificate of Merit in 1991 and again in
1994 and received a bronze medal in 1996. Robert has had several
exhibitions in Jamaica
from 1990 to 1997, and has exhibited in other parts of the world
including Trinidad in 1992, New York
in 1996, Toronto 1996 and
Chicago
in 1997. Robert Armstrong has had special commissions presented
by the Government of Jamaica to Queen Elizabeth and to the King
of Spain, on separate visits to Jamaica, also the office of the
Prime Minister of Jamaica for his residence, just to name a few.
He prides himself in knowing that Mrs. Robin Gibb, wife of a
member of the world renowned band “The Bee Gees” has added his
work to her private collection.
Born in 1979 in the
Spanish Town, St.
Catherine, Jamaica,
Coyotito Bennett
developed his skills by doing charts and posters for his
classroom at school events. He graduated as the most outstanding
art student from Dunoon Technical
High School in 2001. He
attended the Edna Manley School of Visual and Performing Arts.
By 2002 he entered two pieces of his work in the Jamaica
Cultural Development. The pieces were titled ‘Man With Abeng’
and the other ‘Man With Abeng II’. Each piece received
Certificates of Merit. In 2004 he entered a piece titled ‘Kingston Parish
Church’ (A landmark building in Jamaica) and
again was awarded a Certificate of Merit. Coyotito was
commissioned to paint four large murals depicting Planets,
Stars, Moons and Asteroids by Cable and Wireless Jamaica Ltd.
These were to be displayed in four of their Cyber Café
locations in Jamaica. He has been a part of
several exhibitions in Kingston,
Jamaican in 2005, at two of
Jamaica’s well-known
Art Galleries. He has had his work presented
in Trinidad at a Silent Art Auction at a Gallery in
St. Ann’s,
Port of Spain.
Coyotito’s work has been purchased by Maria Mc Kenzie, wife of
the mayor of Kingston, Jamaica,
and Dennis Francis, Trinidad and
Tobago
High Commissioner to
Jamaica. His aim is to create a
style that is different, unusual and interesting to be
appreciated by his viewers.
Born in 1971
Alphanso Blake lives
and works in the hills of St. Andrew where he gets the
inspiration for many of his breathtaking landscapes. He received
the Award for “Most Outstanding Student” in 1988-1989 at the
Edith
Dalton James
High School. He then
attended the Edna Manley School of Visual and Performing Arts.
Alphanso had had numerous group exhibitions and two very
successful solo showings to his credit. His most recent
international shows were in Toronto, Canada, Charleston,
South Carolina, New York,
Barbados and Washington DC.
His work is part of the private collection of popular
American Singer Roberta Flack. Alphanso is influenced by the
work of famous Jamaican artists Barrington Watson and George
Rodney as well as US artist Joseph
Holston. He has been presented with three Certificates of Merit,
two in 1996 and one in 1998 from the Jamaica Cultural
Development Commission Festival of Arts Competition in the
category of visual Arts. Alphanso’s subject matter ranges from
Landscapes to Seascapes, Abstracts, Semi-Abstracts and Figure
Studies.
